Jordan Poyer Before Joining the Miami Dolphins
During his seven-year stint with the Buffalo Bills, Poyer was the cornerstone of the team’s defense. He tallied 22 interceptions, 48 passes defended, 682 tackles, and 11 sacks. Although his performance in 2023 saw a slight decline, with no interceptions and a single forced fumble, he maintained a solid presence with 100 tackles.
Jordan Poyer became available after the team decided to cut him, along with other key players like Mitch Morse and Tre’Davious White. This happens frequently in the NFL due to the salary cap that teams need to work under.
The 33-year-old has spent 11 years in the NFL, spanning three teams, before his latest signing with Miami. He started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 as a 7th-round draft pick, moved to Cleveland until 2016, and then came into his own in Buffalo.
His leadership qualities were recognized in Buffalo, where he served as a team captain from 2020 to 2023, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2021 and a Pro Bowl nod in 2022. Poyer’s past places him among the elite in the league, with only Harrison Smith of the Minnesota Vikings matching over 500 tackles, more than 20 interceptions, and at least 10 sacks since 2017.
The Miami Dolphins’ acquisition of Poyer not only strengthens their defensive lineup but also adds a seasoned leader to their ranks.
His ability to read the game, combined with his physical prowess and experience, will enhance Miami’s secondary, providing stability and a heightened level of play. Poyer will enter a defensive unit that has seen plenty of changes during this NFL free-agency period.
We’ve seen a lot of team changes within the division this offseason, with players heading to division rivals. It’ll set up some intriguing match-ups throughout the season.
