The Miami Dolphins need to find a reliable and decent number two quarterback to back up Tua Tagovailoa. The negotiations between the Dolphins and their quarterback are on-going in a long-term contract and is to be announced hopefully before the start of the season.
It is no surprise that Tagovailoa hasn’t found common ground with the Miami Dolphins on his contract extension. Some players end up getting contract extensions right before the start of the season. Big contracts around the league have been coming in full force for quarterbacks.
In the meantime, the Miami Dolphins need to find a number two quarterback to back up Tagovailoa. Miami currently has Mike White and Skylar Thompson on the roster. Neither quarterback has yet to have the chance to prove themselves but might not get a chance at the number-two spot.
Miami Dolphins GM To Sign Back Up Quarterback
There are still some veteran quarterbacks out there in free agency such as Ryan Tannehill, A.J McCarron, Brian Hoyer, and Blaine Gabbert. For the Dolphins’ best interest, GM Chris Grier should sign former Dolphin and Tennessee Titan Ryan Tannehill.
Ryan Tannehill was the number-eight pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. Eventually, Tannehill was traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2018.
Ryan Tannehill might be the best option for the Miami Dolphins since he is familiar with the organization. Tannehill is also a veteran quarterback who has improved since he has left Miami. He would be the perfect fit for the Dolphins high power octane offense under Coach Mike McDaniel. Tannehill has the capability to finish a game in case Tua Tagovailoa goes down and gets injured.
Miami Dolphins to Clear More Cap Space to Sign Back-Up Quarterback
The Miami Dolphins can still clear up some cap space in case they do decide to sign a decent veteran quarterback before the season. Mike White has $5 million under him. That money can be added to Tagovailoa’s extension or Hill’s extension. If the Dolphins can find a friendly deal for Tannehill it would benefit the Dolphins having him on the roster. This would save $3 million under the cap by cutting White.
As the NFL season approaches it would benefit the Miami Dolphins to sign a veteran quarterback who has experience and has been with he organization before. If GM Chris Grier can sign Ryan Tannehill to a contract it can benefit the Dolphins in case of injury in their star quarterback.
