The Jacksonville Jaguars just committed their future to cornerstone quarterback Trevor Lawrence. This came out to the tune of a massive $275 million contract extension that will keep the former No. 1 overall pick in Jacksonville through 2030.
Naturally, the Jaguars will want some sort of return on their investment soon, and what is clear is that Lawrence is very much willing to deliver.
Jacksonville Jaguars News: Trevor Lawrence Feels No Added Pressure
While this type of big-money deal will without a doubt entail a ton of pressure on this young man, Lawrence is keeping his feet on the ground. That is, the 24-year-old is maintaining his focus on the task at hand — one that he says has not changed since he put pen to paper on his lucrative new deal:
“I’m not going to add any pressure to myself just based on getting this contract,” Lawrence told reporters Thursday, via Charean Williams of PFT. “It doesn’t really change what I expect of myself and what the team expects of me. Whether this got done or not, [Jaguars owner] Mr. [Shad] Khan, [General Manager] Trent [Baalke], [coach] Doug [Pederson], everyone, all the coaches expect me to play well and, like I said, to bring a championship here eventually. . . . Now that it’s done, it doesn’t really change that, but like I said, maybe from the outside it will a bit, but not for me.”
Trevor Lawrence’s Subtle Warning
The Jaguars haven’t exactly been a championship contender since Lawrence’s arrival three years ago. The former Clemson standout is well aware of this fact. However, he is adamant that things will change for Jacksonville in the near future — especially with how well the offseason has gone for this squad:
“I think this is definitely the best team that we’ve had here in my eyes, just at this point in the year from what I’ve seen. I feel very confident in that,” Lawrence said.
