2023 has been a strong year for the Miami Dolphins, who have weaponized speed to race out to an 8-3 record. Half of those games (and wins) have come without arguably the fastest player on the roster. Well, breakout running back De’Von Achane will be back on Sunday afternoon to face the Commanders. It’ll be his sixth game of the season.
Running back health has been an issue for Miami all season. Along with Achane missing six of their 11 games, Jeff Wilson Jr. had an IR stint, Chris Brooks is currently on the IR, and Raheem Mostert has been questionable almost every week. Fortunately, it hasn’t burnt the Miami Dolphins yet.
Thanks to scheme and speed, the Miami Dolphins average more yards per carry (5.5) than any other team. The league leader this season is De’Von Achane, who has a whopping 11.8-yard average on his 39 rushing attempts. He’s an explosive part of a Dolphins offense putting up the second-most points per game, 30.8.
De’Von Achane Makes the Miami Dolphins Nearly Unstoppable
Raheem Mostert, who is second in total rushing yards this season, is good (and fast) enough to cause problems. However, when the Miami Dolphins add Achane to the mix, that’s when real trouble occurs. De’Von Achane is also leading NFL players in rushing yards per game (92.2) this year. He played a major role in Miami’s 70-point outburst against the Broncos.
When the Dolphins struggled against the Bills, De’Von Achane’s eight carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns kept the team alive in the first half against all odds. That’s Miami’s only loss with Achane active this season, and he was not to blame. The Miami Dolphins have a Washington defense allowing the most points per game (29.2) up next on Sunday. With De’Von Achane back in the mix, things may get ugly in a hurry, mostly in Miami’s favor.
