Max Tooley to Return to BYU
Max Tooley is returning for his final season of BYU Football. This is a big win for the BYU defense with Pili’s transfer and the defense’s struggles this past season.
Tooley joined the Cougars in 2018 where he played in just four games during that first season and had two tackles. He didn’t make a big impact that year as he learned the ropes and worked on his skills.

In 2019 he played in all 13 games with 48 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and one pass breakup. In those 13 games, he became a leader of the defense and had his first two starts against Boise State and Utah State. He had three games with at least five tackles and three-time player of the week.
During the Covid season in 2020, he played in all 12 games and had 44 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, three quarterback hits, and one pass breakup. Also helped the Cougars to one of the top defenses in the country and became one of the big leaders for the defense.

2021 he played in 12 games with 68 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, and three pass breakups. Tooley was all over the ball that season and was one of the ones who stepped up when certain defenders went down with injuries.
