The New York Jets are one of the more intriguing teams as they are looking to win right now. The team entered the 2024 NFL draft with the 10th pick but they made the first trade during the draft with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings wanted to ensure they would get one of the quarterbacks in the draft after Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Michael Penix Jr. were all selected within the first eight picks.
The trade details see the New York Jets acquire the 11th, 129th and 157th picks in the 2024 draft while the Minnesota Vikings receive the 10th and 203rd picks in this year’s draft. This seems to be a reactionary move for the Vikings as they wanted to end up with one of the quarterbacks while the Jets were able to draft the same player they were targeting by moving down one spot.
So to recap, the Jets received the 11th overall pick, a fourth-round pick and a fifth-round pick in exchange for the 10th pick and a fifth-round pick. The New York Jets now have three fourth-round picks and a fifth-round selection so they could move up if general manager Joe Douglas sees a player he wants.
What does this trade mean for the New York Jets?
This trade shows a masterclass by Joe Douglas and the Jets as the team is able to acquire middle-round picks in the draft for moving one spot. That is a good haul to continue improving their roster as the Jets could fill a few more holes. With three fourth-round picks, the Jets could move up in the draft but also have the option to get some extra players to continue bolstering their roster.
With the offseason additions with players like Haason Reddick, Mike Williams and Tyron Smith to name a few, this Jets team is ready to win in 2024 and they continue to do well. The team used the 11th pick and selected offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu.
