Mark Stoops Does a 180 and Stays at Kentucky
In a bit of a surprising twist, Mark Stoops has decided to remain at Kentucky. After reports surfaced of his decision to take the head coaching position at Texas A&M, Stoops did an about face in the middle of the night on Saturday.
Mark Stoops Situation Reminiscent of Greg Schiano?
There is also plenty of evidence that points to Aggie boosters and fans not being thrilled with his potential hire, triggering people to remember Tennessee’s hire of Greg Schiano 6 years ago. In that instance, fans revolted against the hire, prompting the state legislature to get involved. Known as “Schiano Sunday”, this led to Schiano being ousted, Athletic Director John Curry being fired, former HC Phillip Fulmer taking the AD job, and Jeremy Pruitt being ultimately hired.
Where Does Texas A&M Go From Here?
AD Ross Bjork will need to put out this massive fire as quickly as possible if he wants to have any shot of keeping his job. After rumors of Ryan Day and Dabo Swinney surfaced yesterday, fans and boosters were plenty upset about the “hiring” of Stoops.
At the end of the day, Ryan Day or Dabo Swinney may be the only options that keep Bjork in College Station. The clock is ticking, as players mull over transfer options and recruits potentially look to flip commitments before National Signing Day.
