New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers does indeed have an ankle injury, the team announced on Monday morning. Fortunately, the injury is minor and shouldn’t cause any long-term problems for Daniel Jones’ new weapon.
Mass confusion on Malik Nabers’ ankle injury
As previously discussed on GH, multiple beat reporters wrote that Nabers suffered an injury toward the end of practice. However, there was confusion as to if Nabers had an injury at all, as Kay Adams appeared to state Nabers wasn’t injured:
According to Charlotte Carroll with The Athletic, Nabers appeared to be in pain when he removed his shoe at practice and limped off the practice field. Multiple beat reporters, including ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, reported Nabers appeared to suffer an injury.
However, following practice, there was some confusion about how severe the injury was or whether there was an injury at all. Kay Adams quote tweeted @_MLFootball, an X account that aggregates NFL content, that Nabers couldn’t be injured because she interviewed him after practice.
The New York Giants reveal Nabers’ injury status
Giants head coach Brian Daboll did not address the media on Sunday. On Monday morning, he told reporters that Nabers was “day-to-day” with the ankle injury.
The Giants don’t believe Nabers’ ankle is fractured, but he’s still experiencing soreness. The medical staff is still evaluating Nabers. Nabers will miss Monday’s practice.
The good news for the Giants is that the injury doesn’t appear to be long-term. They’ll want to be cautious and not push the No. 6 pick to return too early and make the injury worse than it is.
