Earlier today, Electronic Arts took to Twitter to unveil the ratings for the best EDGE Rushers in Madden 2023. After releasing the ratings for the Wide Receivers yesterday, notably leaving Cincinnati’s Ja’Maar Chase as the leagues 18th best Wideout, they have already seen their fair share of feedback for their initial ratings. With the sports gaming world growing more immense and putting a heightened focus on realism, players expect to see ratings that reflect the play on the field. That is one of the many surprises that Madden annually seems to have scattered through their initial rating drops each year.
EDGE Ratings: Myles Garrett, Not TJ Watt, the Lone 99
After a historically dominant 2021 season that was capped off by winning the AP Defensive Player of the Year award. The notion around the league was that TJ Watt would be the best pass rusher in the game. That was not the case. Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett was the one who joined the illustrious 99 club, not Watt. This rating had “TJ Watt” trending on twitter with NFL fans being set ablaze with his rating being below Garrett’s. Watt looks to defend his title as sack king. Garrett looks to be the main contender. This certainly will be a matchup highlighted, as we get to see them play each other twice this year.
Surprise Player Sneaks in Top 10
Rashan Gary of the Green Bay Packers made the first appearance of his career in the top 10 EDGE Rushers of Madden. Gary, has just 16.5 sacks over his first three seasons, but is expected to break onto the scene in a big way for the Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Ranked as PFF’s 49th best player heading into the 2022 season he looks to prove he belongs as an elite threat. He has showed steady improvement each season in the league. Ending last year with 9.5 and hungry for more. Will he live up to his 89 rating? Only time will tell.
Surprise Snub From Top 10
Robert Quinn was quietly one of the leagues best Pass Rush threats last season. Proving he still has some tread left on the tires entering his age 32 season. After posting 18.5 sack last season, he is looking to show more late career resurgence. He is looking to make the best of what’s expected to be another lackluster roster rolled onto Solider Field. Having posted more sacks, tackles and QB hits than Von Miller, who is listed at number four on this years top ten, Quinn is determined to prove the doubters wrong. Being overlooked and passed should only add to the fire for Quinn.
