The LSU Tigers 2023 season had a lot of ups and downs. Quarterback Jayden Daniels was electric but the team was never able to pull off many big wins outside of beating Missouri. As they head into 2024, the team is having to deal with some players leaving via the transfer portal. Former four-star recruit from the 2022 class Quency Wiggins announced he is entering the transfer portal.
NEWS: LSU EDGE Quency Wiggins has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.

LSU Tigers Edge Quency Wiggins Enters Transfer Portal
According to 247, Wiggins was a top 50 recruit in the 2022 cycle. He had over 25 offers coming out of high school but ended up choosing to stay in his home state of Louisiana. Wiggins didn’t see the field much in 2023 tallying only five tackles but this is not uncommon for a freshman player on a talent-rich program. The biggest thing that LSU loses out on is the upside. Wiggins has the potential to be a special player but he has decided to move on.
More Pressure To Play Earlier?
Obviously, I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation but this seems to be motivated by playing time and possibly NIL. What this leads me to wonder is if there is going to be increased pressure to play top recruits earlier than before. In the past, coaches could sit talented prospects and still retain them. Now, the transfer portal gives players an out from a program. If programs don’t want to lose their recruiting class, they may need to give more playing time to younger guys.
The LSU Tigers are hoping to get back on top of the SEC in 2024. They always put together a competitive team and should be in the mix.
