The Los Angeles Rams came up with a big win in Week 17 over the New York Giants. As a result, they clinched a playoff spot. That gives the Rams the luxury of resting some starters in Week 18 against the San Francisco 49ers. Will they do so? Well, one announcement reveals some of their plans.
Los Angeles Rams Starting Carson Wentz in Week 18
According to Mike Garafalo of the NFL Network, veteran QB Carson Wentz will get the nod for the Rams in Week 18. This will be Wentz’s first NFL start in over a calendar year. It also means starting QB Matthew Stafford will be on the sidelines until the first playoff game.
What This Means
It means that McVay is playing it safe with his star quarterback. To avoid the risk of injury, McVay will keep Stafford on the sidelines until the playoffs given this announcement. It also could mean the Rams announcing that they are resting other key starters. This includes players such as Cooper Kupp, Aaron Donald, and more.
Technically, the Rams have not locked up their position. While they will definitely be in the playoffs, they could still fall to the seventh seed if a certain scenario plays out. However, McVay seems willing to risk this in favor of keeping his starting quarterback from taking a big hit in a game with little stakes.
