The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly making a significant signing. Right now, the Rams are 6-6 and are competing for a playoff spot in the NFC. To help them do this, they are signing a veteran kicker.
Los Angeles Rams Are Signing Mason Crosby
According to Mike Garafalo of NFL Network, the Los Angeles Rams plan to sign 16-year veteran Mason Crosby. Up until now, he has spent his entire career with the Green Bay Packers. Crosby is 39 years old and has not played in 2023.
Mason Crosby’s Career
Mason Crosby has had a fantastic NFL career. Now, he gets an opportunity to show the Rams what he has left. That is because, according to the report above, Los Angeles plans to elevate Crosby to the active roster shortly. Right now, he is being signed to the Rams’ practice squad.
Crosby has never missed a field goal shorter than 20 yards. He has also missed just two field goals under 30 yards throughout his 16-year NFL career. Overall, Crosby has missed just 90 field goals and 20 extra points throughout his career.
Replacing Lucas Havrisik?
Right now, the current kicker for the Los Angeles Rams is Lucas Havrisik. This is his first year on an active roster in the NFL. Havrisik has bounced around the league over the last two years.
In 2022, he was on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. However, he was released less than a week after signing with them. Earlier in 2023, he was on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad. He signed with the Rams on October 24th.
Unfortunately, it does not appear like Havrisik has been the answer for the Rams. Since he took the job from veteran kicker Brett Maher, he has made just seven of his 10 field goal attempts. Notably, he is struggling with field goals over 40 yards. Havrisik is just 3/6 this season from that distance.
What Happens Now?
The Los Angeles Rams are likely hoping that Mason Crosby provides more consistency at the position for them. In the thick of a playoff race, they cannot afford to make mistakes on the little things. For now, it is unclear if Crosby will start by next week. The Rams go on the road to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14.
