The Los Angeles Rams lost their best player that has ever been with the franchise this off season to retirement. Arguably the best defensive player of all time, Aaron Donald called it a career this off season after absolutely dominating the NFL for ten years. Head coach Sean McVay revealed how he found about the retirement, and what the conversation between him and Donald was like.
Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald And Sean McVay
McVay revealed that he knew Donald was retiring after their playoff game. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, McVay shared what Donald’s post game message was and the conversation that the two men had about his retirement.
“I’m full,” McVay says Donald told him after that game.
“I’m just like, ‘And you should be. You have every right to feel that way.’ What an amazing thing,” McVay said
“The words won’t do justice to the way that he so eloquently articulated it to me and just put it in a way that, as a human being, all you’re really looking for is to be at peace and to be happy.”
Sean McVay Was Happy For Aaron Donald
The entire NFL world congratulated Donald on one of the best careers the league has ever seen and among those was McVay. Usually a coach may be distraught to lose their best player but McVay was happy for Donald. Not many players get to walk away on their own terms, and it was fitting that Donald did just that.
“He was full. And, man, did you feel that. You’re just so happy because he earned it too.”
Donald never missed a Pro Bowl in his career in all ten seasons, and won three defensive player of the year awards. He also walks away as a Super Bowl champion and was one of the last remaining players on the roster to be a part of both the St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams team.
