The Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world last season by sneaking into the NFC Playoffs with a 10-7 record. This year, they hope to do even more with a deep run in the NFL Playoffs. In order to do that, though, they will need to figure out how to get through their division rival and defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers.
Fortunately for the Rams, they have a solid quarterback in Matthew Stafford. They also have a dynamic pair of wide receivers in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. The latter of these two players broke two NFL rookie records last season by hauling in 105 receptions for 1,486 yards.
They also have a good running game, led by Kyren Williams who had 1,144 yards rushing last season to go with 12 touchdowns.
However, they do face some questions on defense, especially with the retirement of future Hall of Fame nose tackle Aaron Donald. If Los Angeles is going to keep pace with the 49ers in the division, they may need to add weapons on either side of the ball.
NFL Analyst Suggests the Los Angeles Rams Trade for Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Davante Adams
As mentioned, the Rams already have a pair of All-Pro level wide receivers in Kupp and Nacua. However, if they want to build an offense that every NFL defense would struggle to stop, they could try to work out a trade for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.
In a recent article posted on Bleacher Report by NFL analyst Gary Davenport, it is suggested that Los Angeles trade away a first round pick for Adams, who will be stuck playing with mediocre quarterbacks for the foreseeable future:
“The Rams admittedly don’t really need Adams—Puka Nacua was a revelation as a rookie, breaking a 60-year-old record for receiving yards by a first-year player. Cooper Kupp has struggled with injuries the past two seasons, but in 2021 he won the receiving “Triple Crown” –leading the NFL in receptions, yards and receiving scores.
“Adding Adams to that mix would give Matthew Stafford the most dangerous trio of wide receivers in the league.
“It wouldn’t be cheap—but there’s no general manager in the NFL more willing to deal first-rounders than Les Snead. 2024 was the first time Los Angeles picked in Round 1 since taking Jared Goff first overall in 2016. It wouldn’t be easy to get Adams’ salary under the cap, either—but teams play that shell game all the time.
“Want to seriously threaten a loaded San Francisco 49ers team in the NFC West in 2024?
“This is the kind of move it’s going to take.”
As Davenport mentions, trading for Adams would cost the team a first round pick next season. However, Adams is also under contract through 2026, which may be worth it to the Rams.
Would the Los Angeles Rams Trading for Davante Adams Be Worth It?
There is absolutely no doubt that the Rams would be a better team with Adams on their roster. He is a generational talent that may very well end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame when his career is all said and done.
That being said, the Rams are in a position where they need to compete and get younger instead of giving up chances at drafting good young players for aging veterans. Adding Adams now may give them a shot at a Super Bowl within the next year or two, but they could hold onto their draft pick and have a longer window if they draft properly.
