Former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans in another cap casualty for the Chargers in 2023.
According to ESPN and NFL Network, the former first-round pick agreed to a two-year deal that is worth $18 million. Murray Jr. has been with the Chargers since he was drafted at the No. 23 overall spot in 2020.
Tennessee Titans LB Kenneth Murray Jr. was accused of using AI in his farewell message to the Los Angeles Chargers
As many players do, Tennessee Titans linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. took to social media to give thanks to the team he was leaving in free agency. That team, the Los Angeles Chargers in this case, was the recipient of a farewell message that many think was written by A.I. like ChatGPT.

The accusation in question cites an A.I. detector as proof that the statement was A.I. generated. This does not suffice as proof as those A.I. detectors have been deemed inaccurate. Lauren Coffey of InsideHigherEd explained the studies that found that the detectors in question were unreliable.
In June last year, an international team of academics found a dozen AI-detection tools were “neither accurate nor reliable.”
That same month, a team of University of Maryland students found the tools would flag work not produced by AI or could be entirely circumvented by paraphrasing AI-generated text. Their research found “these detectors are not reliable in practical scenarios.”
“There are a lot of companies raising a lot of funding and claiming they have detectors to be reliably used, but the issue is none of them explain what the evaluation is and how it’s done—it’s just snapshots,” said Soheil Feizi, the director of the university’s Reliable AI Lab who oversaw the Maryland team.
Although the A.I. detectors are unreliable, the statement from Murray Jr. does come off as a bit generic to several fans.

For reference, here is a clip of Murray Jr. speaking in a press conference about how he might fit with the Tennessee Titans. The manner in which he speaks in this clip is fairly generic and not much different from the way in which the farewell message was written.

Los Angeles Chargers fans have not been nice to Tennessee Titans linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr.
Murray Jr. has been a bit of a disappointment for the Chargers after being a first-round pick in 2023. The Titans hope to rejuvenate Murray Jr.’s career with some new scenery, but Chargers fans have not been nice to the former Oklahoma Sooners star.
Murray Jr. fielded an abysmal 52.9 overall grade from Pro Football Focus in 2023. He had 107 tackles in 2023 after having just 31 and 76 in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
Murray Jr. was known for his ability to rush the quarterback as an off-ball linebacker during his time in college, but that ability hasn’t translated to the NFL as he only has five sacks in four years.

Murray Jr. was also known for his aggressiveness at the linebacker position, but that is often what gets him into trouble. Midway through the season, Murray Jr. was in the top 10 for most missed tackles by a linebacker.

Many Chargers fans were not upset to see Murray Jr. move on from the organization.
Thank God. Could not handle another year of Kenneth Murray https://t.co/BFrxjH02QX
