The Los Angeles Chargers made quarterback Justin Herbert the highest paid quarterback in the league this week. While the team has had questionable success, Herbert’s numbers have been off the charts and he is well deserving of the extension. Questions will arise whether Herbert’s play style will change now that he has the extension. The quarterback says that is not happening.

Herbert talked about how getting the extension means he can focus solely on football. I’m sure this extension has taken a lot of his time lately and now he can focus on 2023.

“I think I just get to play football now. I think that’s the best part about it, is that I get to play free. I get to play fearless. We go out there and get to play our type of ball. I know when we’re playing at our best, we’re a tough team. These next couple of weeks of getting together, working together. I think they’re going to be huge for us. We’re going to show a lot of improvement.”

The Chargers are going into the season with high expectations as their roster is full of talent. The question is whether they can put it all together.

Can The Chargers Have Playoff Success?

Last year ended in disaster. The 27 point collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars left a sour taste after the season. The Chargers ended up making big changes and might have made the most significant non-head coach hire in the league. Kellen Moore comes over from Dallas after orchestrating top offenses. Many analysts were critical of the system that Joe Lombardi ran as they felt it didn’t tap into Herbert’s strengths. The hope is that Moore opens up the offense a little and Herbert thrives.

The Los Angeles Chargers are fully committed to Justin Herbert. All eyes will be on him and the team in 2023 to see if they finally can make a deep playoff run.
