The Los Angeles Chargers, who have made moves this off-season to make cap space are looking to bounce back in 2024 after ending their 2023 campaign with a 5-12 record. Los Angeles will have multiple spots to fill on the offensive side of the ball ahead of next season and are linked to signing a Pro Bowler out of the backfield.
D’Andre Swift an “Ideal Fit” for Los Angeles Chargers in Free Agency According to NFL Insider
According to FanBuzz’s Senior NFL Insider Matt Lombardo’s “One NFL Free Agent Each Team Must Sign” article, the Chargers should consider upgrading their running back room by acquiring D’Andre Swift from the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. Swift was drafted 35th overall in 2020 by the Detroit Lions and traded to the Eagles last season.
“Jim Harbaugh’s arrival in Los Angeles signals one thing; the Chargers are about to be a ground-and-pound offense. Swift has averaged 682 yards per season but adds 195 career catches. The versatility to evade defenders in the open field and contribute in the passing game makes Swift an ideal fit for Justin Herbert’s supporting cast.”
Swift, who is heading into free agency after not receiving Philadelphia’s franchise tag will enter a pool of running backs waiting to be signed such as Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs and even more. His dynamic skill set could benefit a Jim Harbaugh offense that is expected to be run heavy this season. He could also be the answer to replacing veteran Austin Ekeler, who is also expected to hit free agency.
Swift Rushed for 1st 1,000-Yard Season in Philadelphia Last Season
Swift took over as the lead back quickly in Philadelphia. Rushing for 1,049 yards on a 4.6 average per carry and scoring 5 touchdowns on the ground. He was also used as a receiver adding 39 catches for 214 yards and a touchdown. Swift was awarded his first Pro Bowl selection and proved he can produce at a high level in the NFL after struggling to find consistency his first 3 seasons.
Swift will be able to talk to teams once the March 11th deadline hits and could receive interest from multiple teams. However, Lombardo believes that Swift would make a good fit in Harbaugh’s scheme as a Charger.
