Former All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell is contemplating a return to the NFL according to what he posted on Snapchat this past Friday night.
He posted several videos stating he would start training in March for his potential comeback. Bell also had this to say about the teams he wants to play for:
“And I will only come back for that one team. You all know who it is. I don’t have to say no team. You all know who it is.”
Will Le’Veon Bell Go Back To Steel City?
Assuming he’s talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team that drafted Bell in the second round back over 10 years, would they even consider bringing him back for the 2024 season?
The Steelers had two 25-year-old backs with over 1000 total yards from scrimmage this past year. Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren were ranked the third best running back duo in the league by Maurice Jones-Drew.
Adding another back that brings this much attention to this deep and talented backfield isn’t the top priority for head coach Mike Tomlin. Especially after the way he left the team after sitting out the entire 2018 season due to a contract dispute.
“I never apologized to the fans for sitting out, or leaving the Steelers,” Bell said in a social media post last year. “I never apologized. So, I want to say I apologize for leaving the best damn fans there is in this damn world. I shouldn’t have left. I apologize, I should never have left. I apologize. That’s my fault. That’s on me.”
Snapchat vs Reality
Telling social media that you regret sitting out and that you plan on training to become better than you ever were isn’t enough to guarantee a roster spot. Bell is going to have to prove that even at 32-years-old he can still make an impact with the ball in his hand.
