The Las Vegas Raiders, who are one of the few teams without a definitive starter at quarterback have been linked to trading up in this year’s draft on multiple occasions and have their eyes set on LSU superstar Jayden Daniels. Daniels won the Heisman trophy last season and is among the top 3 quarterbacks in the 2024 class alongside Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.
Williams is likely to be the first off the board due to the Chicago Bears trading Justin Fields and their staff attending his Pro Day, but Maye and Daniels have been back and forth on multiple NFL insiders draft boards. Las Vegas along with the Minnesota Vikings have also been linked to trading up within the first three picks, which could change the course of this year’s draft depending on who gets to choose when the selection is up.
Las Vegas Raiders HC Antonio Pierce Recruited Jayden Daniels at Arizona State

Before transferring to LSU, Daniels was the starting quarterback at Arizona State. The head coach who recruited him to be a Sun Devil was none other than Antonio Pierce. When asked about the recruitment pitch to Daniels, Pierce said that he would eventually become a Heisman trophy winner. While he did not win the award under Pierce at Arizona State, Daniels did achieve that manifestation.
This was the first reason why Las Vegas was linked to trading up for Daniels a few weeks ago. Their previous connection could unlock an offense that was not consistent last season and Pierce expressed that he wants Las Vegas to be aggressive during the draft process. The Raiders’ superstar wide receiver, Davante Adams also seems to endorse the idea of trading up in this year’s draft for Daniels.

Adams re-posted an image via The Checkdown and NFL Network on his Instagram story of Jayden Daniels holding his Heisman trophy with a quote that reads “my resume speaks for itself.” Daniels was also tagged in the re-post.
It seems that both Adams and Pierce have a preference in which quarterback they want in this year’s draft and would be the likely selection if Las Vegas makes an aggressive move. However, the Raiders currently hold the 13th pick, and trading up would come at a hefty price tag considering teams at the top of the board need young talent.
