The Las Vegas Raiders are having an interesting start to their 2023 season. The Raiders got a big win in Week One vs. their division rival Denver Broncos. However, since then they have dropped two games to the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. Sitting at 1-2 three weeks into the season wasn’t exactly what the Raiders expected, now they decided to release a Super Bowl champion.
The Las Vegas Raiders Release Super Bowl Champion Chandler Jones Amid Off-The-Field Issues
Records from the Las Vegas jail indicated that defensive end Chandler Jones was arrested Friday. It was announced Saturday that the Raiders will release the veteran pass rusher, according to Adam Schefter.
The Clark County Detention Center listed Jones as an inmate as of late Friday morning. His bail was set at $15,000 after he allegedly violated a domestic violence temporary protective order. The court records for Clark County show Jones posted bond later Friday. He is scheduled to appear back in court Dec. 4.
In a statement released Friday, the Raiders expressed their hope that Chandler Jones will receive the care he needs. We are thinking of him, his family, and everyone involved.” The team stated it would not comment further on Jones’ situation since it is a legal matter.
Jones has not played this season for the Raiders. During his complaints on social media about the team and people associated with it, he has made some very strong and serious accusations.
He was previously on the non-football illness list.
Because the trade deadline has not passed, Jones will become a free agent immediately. Nevertheless, it is unlikely that another team will rush to sign him based on recent developments.
