The Las Vegas Raiders made it official last week, removing the interim tag from Antonio Pierce’s job title and making him the newest head coach of the storied franchise. Pierce’s first order of operation remains filling out the rest of his coaching staff, including the vacant offensive coordinator position. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders will interview former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.

Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and OC Mick Lombardi called the offensive plays for the Raiders to start the season. However, the Raiders organization fired the duo alongside general manager Dave Ziegler in late October. Quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree took over.
Luke Getsy: Longtime NFL Coach
Getsy, a former quarterback with the Pitt Panthers and Akron Zips, started his coaching career in 2007 at his alma mater. The Pennsylvania native joined the NFL ranks in 2014, working as an offensive quality control coach with the Green Bay Packers under Mike McCarthy. He transitioned to wide receivers coach in 2016 before returning to college as an offensive coordinator in 2018. After a short one-year stint with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, he returned to Green Bay as the quarterback’s coach with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers and current starter Jordan Love.
The Chicago Bears poached Getsy from the Packers in 2022, naming him the team’s offensive coordinator under head coach Matt Eberflus. The Bears scored 19.2 points per game during his first season, a one-point increase from the year prior. Quarterback Justin Fields ran for 1,143 yards and eight scores. However, he struggled mightily as a passer, throwing just 17 touchdowns against 11 picks in 15 games. The Bears again saw little increase in offensive production in 2023, scoring 21.2 points per game. Fields again failed to throw 20 passing touchdowns. Despite Chicago’s inability to generate offense through passing, the Bears ranked in the top two regarding rushing yards each of their two seasons with Getsy.
Las Vegas Raiders: Turning Page to 2024
The Raiders will start a new era next fall, the first with Antonio Pierce as the official head coach. Las Vegas went 5-4 with Pierce as the interim head coach this season, including beating the Los Angeles Chargers 63-21 in mid-December. The AFC West club holds the 13th overall selection in the upcoming draft. NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah has Las Vegas selecting Penn State offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu in his first mock draft.
