“Can’t Stop Spending Money On Defense”: Jalen Ramsey Trade By Steelers Has Colin Cowherd Puzzled On Adding Defensive Investment

Jalen Ramsey’s trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers raised many eyebrows ever since the news was announced. The Steelers traded away Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins in return for cornerback Ramsey, and tight end Jonnu Smith. In a recent episode of his show ‘The Herd’, NFL analyst Colin Cowherd dissed the Steelers for spending too much on defense, like bringing in cornerback Ramsey.

Cowherd seemed pretty peeved that Mike Tomlin & co. would decide to pour in plenty of money to bolster their defense, especially when they have many loose ends to tie up. Cowherd also did not seem to have the highest opinion of Jalen Ramsey, especially since the cornerback has switched teams several times over the last few years.

“So the Steelers can’t stop spending money on defense. So this morning, what do you know, bounce around the league guy Jalen Ramsey, 26 and a half million dollars, the Steelers went and got him. Now, they did move off of Minkah Fitzpatrick. But Minkah is low-maintenance, seven million dollars a year cheaper, a leader in the room, not a bounce round the league guy, so the Steelers can’t help themselves. Now they’re spending seven and a half million dollars more than they were yesterday in the secondary… Stop spending money on defense…,” Colin Cowherd spoke about Jalen Ramsey and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the latest episode of ‘The Herd’.

Jalen Ramsey’s entrance into the Pittsburgh Steelers roster has not been taken positively by all fans of the team. Many have been comparing his stats with that of Fitzpatrick, who was traded away for him. While Fitzpatrick’s recent numbers too have not been that great, Ramsey’s strength is in his versatility, which is perhaps why the Pittsburgh Steelers would have invested in him.

Jalen Ramsey’s Team Criticized For Not Finalizing TJ Watt Contract

In the same episode, Jalen Ramsey’s Pittsburgh Steelers were also criticized by Colin Cowherd for not finalizing linebacker TJ Watt’s contract extension. Watt will soon be entering the final year of his current contract and has already demanded a worthy contract extension.

While Watt is definitely asking plenty from the Steelers, the linebacker is a true veteran to the team. However, the Steelers have not finalized a proper deal for Watt, for which the team got plenty of hate from Colin Cowherd. Cowherd rationalized that it was definitely ironic for the Steelers to be the biggest spenders in terms of defense and not finalize Watt’s contract when he was their “best defensive player”.
