It has been over 72 hours since Michigan did the almost impossible, knocking off Ohio State as a 20-point road underdog. Now, there is a serious discussion that Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day will be losing his job.
Losing to Michigan four seasons in a row is something an Ohio State head coach can’t do, and Day should be shown the door after maybe the worst loss in school history.
If Day is let go, Ohio State will become the biggest college football job open on the market in some time, but there is a chance some of their top targets will turn them down.
Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel will most likely be Ohio State’s number one option, but there is a chance he will turn them down since he could be an NFL head coach again in the next two months.
Other names would be Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, but both had put their programs in great spots. Why would any of them want to leave what they have built?
Lane Kiffin Going To Ohio State Would Be Insane
Ohio State might not be able to get their first few options, but one name that would be fun to watch is Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin has built the Ole Miss program over the last five years and brings a unique personality to the sport that you will never see from other coaches.
The 49-year-old head coach is never afraid to speak his mind, and it would be about time for an Ohio State coach to stand up to people instead of hiding behind the microphone.
Kiffin won’t be Ohio State’s first option, but he is regarded as one of the top coaches in college football. If the Buckeyes can’t get Lanning, Freeman, or Vrabel, then calling the Ole Miss head coach won’t be a bad option.
Many people wouldn’t want Kiffin to be the Buckeye’s head coach, but why not give it a chance? He is an elite recruiter and has become a great coach since spending time as an offensive coordinator under Nick Saban.
Clearly, nothing has worked the last four years under Ryan Day when it comes to beating Michigan, so maybe they need a crazy coach who will get the most out of his guys and finally win a game against their biggest rival.
Kiffin would be the number one target for the Florida head coaching job if it opened up this offseason, but since that job won’t become available, there is now a chance he could put his name in the Ohio State job.
