Junior quarterback Kyle McCord was under center for the Ohio State Buckeyes a little less than a month ago and surprisingly entered the NCAA Transfer Portal when the window officially opened. He immediately became one of the top quarterbacks that was available for any program in the country but Kyle McCord has officially made his decision as he will be under center for the Syracuse Orange in 2024, as reported by Brant Axe of Syracuse.com.

This is a massive shift in the college football world for the 2024 season as Kyle McCord is a former five-star prospect and had an outstanding season for the 11-1 Ohio State Buckeyes. McCord played extremely well throughout the season in his first season as a starting quarterback as he was 229-of-348 (65.8 completion percentage) for 3,170 yards with 24 touchdowns to six interceptions.
This is going to be interesting to see how the Ohio State Buckeyes answer from this and also how the Syracuse Orange look in a post-Dino Babers world.
What could have drawn Kyle McCord to the Syracuse Orange?
There could be a few reasons that Kyle McCord made the decision to leave the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Big Ten Conference to join the Syracuse Orange and the Atlantic Coast Conference. The first thought people are going to immediately jump to is the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deal that could be on the table for him. While this is just a report and we do not have any concrete evidence of that being the reason, it definitely would not be a surprise to learn that was a major factor.
Another reason could be one that is a lot simpler than money. He was born in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and that is less than 300 miles away from Syracuse, New York. It obviously is a bit closer than Columbus, Ohio is but there could be a bevy of reasons why he left.
After losing to the Michigan Wolverines, there were conversations and rumblings that Buckeyes coach Ryan Day could be looking elsewhere to coach. There also is the fact that both top wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr and Emeka Egbuka could be leaving the program and entering the 2024 NFL draft class. Whatever the reasoning for the decision, hopefully Kyle McCord does well as a member of the Syracuse Orange.
