Starting next week, Kirk Cousins is a free agent and he is free to sign with any team. A name that’s been floating around lately has been the Atlanta Falcons, especially after there were reports that Cousins was planning on moving his family to ATL.
With Cousins’ contract having a no-trade clause and a no-tag clause, the quarterback and the Vikings have to come up with a deal or Minnesota has to let Cousins walk.
Cousins last season had a season-ending Achilles injury that was torn in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers. He completed 69.5% of his passes for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Kirk Cousins is 35 years old and still can produce in the NFL when on the field.
Kirk Cousins Signing With the Atlanta Falcons Would Most Likely Make Them the Favorites To Win the NFC South
If Cousins were to sign with the Falcons, he would be the starting quarterback for them immediately and they would be moving off the Desmond Ridder era. He and Taylor Heinickie’s poor quarterback play is what got Arthur Smith fired as head coach last season.
Atlanta finished 7-10 despite the poor quarterback play. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished with a 9-8 record last season and so did the New Orleans Saints, but Tampa Bay won the division over New Orleans due to tiebreakers.
If the Falcons got Cousins, they would be the best team in the division instantly. Kirk Cousins is better than Derek Carr and Tampa Bay may not bring back Baker Mayfield at quarterback. Bryce Young is going to be a massive work in progress with the Carolina Panthers.
The Atlanta Falcons new head coach this year is Raheem Morris. Atlanta also has offensive talent with Drake London, Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allegier, and Kyle Pitts. Cousins would put up very good numbers with that offense and they have one of the better offensive lines in the NFL also. Because it is an offensive league, they would also have the best offense in the division.
