On Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers announced they added a wide receiver and running back to their 90-man roster. The moves come as the 49ers have Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk off the practice field at training camp.
Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk are off the practice field
McCaffrey is expected to miss the preseason with a calf injury. The 49ers believe he will be good to play in Week 1 of the regular season. The 49ers are in talks with multiple teams to trade Aiyuk, although no firm deal is set in place.
The San Francisco 49ers signed Jontre Kirklin
According to a statement by the 49ers, the team released safety Erik Harris and waived injured wide receiver Terique Owens, son of Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Terrell Owens. The 49ers signed wide receiver Jontre Kirklin:
Kirklin (6-0, 184) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022. Throughout his two-year NFL career, Kirklin has spent time on the Cardinals (2022) and New Orleans Saints (2022-24) practice squad.
Ke’Shawn Vaughn signs with the 49ers
The 49ers also signed Ke’Shawn Vaughn:
Vaughn (5-10, 214) was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round (76th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Throughout his four-year NFL career, Vaughn has appeared in 43 games (one start) and registered 103 carries for 384 yards (3.7 average) and two touchdowns on the ground to go along with 14 receptions for 81 yards (5.8 average) and one touchdown through the air.
