The Kentucky Wildcats are dealing with what so many programs are dealing with this time of year, the transfer portal. In this new college football landscape, more players than ever are constantly trying to improve their situation with the portal. Kentucky Wildcats Jalen Geiger Enters The Transfer Portal
Part of the 2019 class, Geiger played 253 defensive snaps for the Wildcats this year. His 2022 season ended in week 2 after a season-ending knee injury. 2023 saw more of the same with the injury bug biting in week 6. Since he was not available, other players stepped up and ultimately filled his role. Geiger now hopes to find a place to be the bonafide starter for his last year of eligibility. He ends his Kentucky career with 38 tackles, two pass breakups, one interception, one sack, and two defensive touchdowns.
Momentum For The Wildcats
While this is not great news for the program, they ended the season on a huge high. They beat the No. 10 team in the nation and their rivals the Louisville Cardinals. This is the type of win that can propel a program into the next season. Being in the SEC means Kentucky will always have an uphill climb but they have shown that they can hang with the bigger programs. This is a loss for them but because of the injuries to Geiger, they likely will not feel it as much.
The Kentucky Wildcats will likely look to the transfer portal to find a Jalen Geiger replacement. Or they could easily hope a new recruit can step into the role. Regardless, the future looks bright in Lexington.
