Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes started out the 2023 season on fire. After a 3-0 start, the buzz around the program was at an all-time high. The team then came back down to earth losing eight of their last nine games ending the season 4-8. Days after a quarterback from the 2025 class decommitted, 2024 quarterback Danny O’Neil also decommitted from the team.

Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders Lose Danny O’Neil
Four-star quarterback Antwann Hill changed his mind Sunday morning. O’Neil followed up Monday by opening up his recruitment once again. In a span of two days, the Buffaloes have lost their top quarterback recruits for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. This is not what Sanders and his staff want to be hearing after a disappointing season. One of the strengths of Sanders was his ability to bring in high-profile recruits but now it seems like recruits are becoming less enthusiastic. Whether it is what Coach Prime has been saying throughout the season or the lackluster record, recruits are reconsidering their choice.
Can Colorado Recover?
In a word, yes. The transfer portal offers and whole new pool of players to recruit. A coach could be terrible at recruiting out of high school but land an entire team through the transfer portal. Ultimately, Sanders has to show that he can put a winning product on the field. A lot of these recruits committed when the team was flying high but once the team couldn’t win games, recruits became lukewarm on the program. Sanders knows he needs to have a better 2024 and then the recruiting problem should solve itself.
Colorado football is under a microscope now with Sanders at the helm. Will the team be able to recover in 2024?
