Small hands are not stopping Kenny Pickett from impressing.
Kenny Pickett, set the NFL world ablaze with his preseason performance last Saturday. Throwing for as many TDs as he had total completions. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said earlier this week in practice that the young signal caller would get “An increased role this week”, against the Jaguars. What does that mean for Kenny and more importantly the Steelers? It could mean the same amount of reps and opportunity, but could it mean more?
We see Kenny Pickett vs Trevor Lawrence battle it out this weekend. This may be a peek into the future of the NFL. Two guuys that are projected to be the faces of the francise for the forseeable future. Lawrence was undefeated against Picketts Panthers during his time at death valley. Kenny is looking to right the ship and get in the W column against his former ACC rival.
He will come in for relief of starter Mitch Trubisky on Saturday. With Trubisky likely getting more run with the ones, do we possibly see a half of football each from Mitch and Kenny, leaving Mason on the sideline? With a good showing against the Jags, Pickett can solidify his role as the QB2. Steelers fans should be happy and can look forward to seeing the pairing of him and George Pickens sooner rather than later.
What to look for in Week 2 for Kenny
As the Steelers gear to play again Saturday, there are a few things fans should keep an eye on. First, Kenny was amazing at completing his passes, throwing accurately and on time all night. But let us not forget that he was sacked on a crucial fourth down late in that preseason game by Boye Mafe. If not for Mark Robinsons late strip sack, we are probabalylooking at the Steelers losing that game and not about how Pickett is the heir apparent to the throne. Secondly, Kenny needs push the ball down the field. In the first preseason game we did not see a ton of down the field shots and chunk plays. This offense needs to have the down field passing game be a threat if it is going to work best. This is another test for the youngester and lets hope he steps up to the plate and knocks it out of the park once again.
