Mike Tomlin’s midas touch
The Pittsburgh Steelers strike gold again after another successful steal in this years NFL Draft. George Pickens is the latest wide receiver to continue the legacy of drafting guys like Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace, and even newly departed JuJu Smith-Schuster. It didn’t take long for Mike Tomlin’s 52nd overall pick to pay dividends.
Pick-em Apart, George
During the NFL preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks the Steelers gave the home crowd something more to hope for. Although 1st round rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett was the clear popular choice, it was the Georgia Bulldog who had an ‘Chad Johnson-esqe” toe drag swag moment.
Defensive back Coby Bryant, a promising rookie in his own right, could not handle Pickens physicality and pin point ball placement by Mason Rudolph in the back of the end zone. Steelers Nation bagged another great wide out with Pro Bowl certainty. One can only wonder how long before he takes over as the No.1 receiver.
During his impressive career at Georgia, he did not rack up the most stats. Only finishing with 90 receptions, over 1300 yards, and 14 touchdowns as a Bulldog. Pickens, however, made the big plays when needed in an offense usually known for its running backs. Not only did Georgia solidify themselves upsetting Alabama in the National Championship, but George’s draft status sky rocketed as well. Mike Tomlin expressed his thoughts towards the 6’3 202 pound Pickens during camp.
