Kyle Pitts trade buzz grows as Falcons consider move

The Philadelphia Eagles have been pushed to strengthen the support around quarterback Jalen Hurts — and some reinforcements are already in place with Dallas Goedert returning. The team could still be looking to add more, as the Eagles have emerged as a possible trade landing spot for tight end Kyle Pitts.

The Falcons may consider moving on from Kyle Pitts, who has struggled to meet expectations since being drafted fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Pitts recorded 68 receptions for 1,026 yards but found the end zone just once, falling short of the high hopes surrounding him.

Since his breakout rookie season, the 24-year-old has struggled to replicate that success. He hasn’t surpassed 60 catches in any year since, and his receiving yards have fallen well short—missing his 2021 total by over 300 yards each season. One notable trend, however, is his touchdown tally, which has steadily increased by one each year.

Are the Falcons moving Kyle Pitts?

According to ESPN, it would be logical for the Falcons to explore trade options for Pitts.

“Pitts has never matched the heights of his 1,026-yard rookie season, nor has he matched expectations as the No. 4 overall pick,” Aaron Schatz wrote. “It’s very unlikely that the Falcons extend or re-sign him after the 2025 season. So perhaps the best thing is to get some value for him now and let him see what he can do with a change of scenery,” wrote Aaron Schatz.

While trading Pitts is a reasonable option, the Falcons would need significant compensation to make it worthwhile. Despite not producing at an elite level, he still holds value as a capable starter with exceptional physical tools.

If the Falcons increase his involvement in 2025, which many anticipate with Michael Penix Jr. taking over at quarterback, Pitts has a strong chance to emerge as a significant contributor. Even if he doesn’t post big numbers, his presence can stretch defenses and benefit Atlanta’s other offensive weapons. Trading him would leave the team in need of a new starting-level tight end before the season begins.

For now, it seems likely that Pitts will remain in Atlanta. Still, if the Falcons receive a strong enough offer, they may seriously consider moving on.
