The Kansas State Wildcats had a decent season in 2023. They went 8-4 in the overall and 6-3 in the conference which is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. However, the Wildcats want to get into the upper echelon of the Big 12. They will have to do it without a team captain from 2023. Safety Kobe Savage has entered the transfer portal.

Kansas State S Kobe Savage Enters Transfer Portal
Savage has been very productive for the Wildcats in the past two seasons. He has amassed 115 tackles, six interceptions, and one forced fumble in his career. He was also a team captain last season. Savage is the 16th player from last year’s team to enter the transfer portal which is not what head coach Chris Klieman wanted to have happen this offseason. Savage especially is a loss as teammates called him “the quarterback of the defense.”
New Look Big 12
The conference is going to look a lot different next year. Not only are a couple of staples leaving, but they are also absorbing a lot of the Pac-12. New opponents and new rivalries will be created. This makes the 2024 season difficult to predict for the Wildcats. We don’t really know how the increased travel and different playing styles will affect the play on the field. 2024 will be one of the most interesting years in recent memory for college football.
Can Kansas State recover from all of these players leaving? The portal takes players away but is also an opportunity for others to join the program. Klieman better start recruiting hard or the Wildcats may struggle in 2024.
