The New York Jets are a team that looks like they’re about to implode. The fact that they are now set to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs for their next game does not help their cause one bit.
After losing two consecutive games following Aaron Rodgers’ injury, the Jets are now facing the very distinct possibility of going 1-3 to start the season as they host Patrick Mahomes and the defending champs for Week 4.
Kansas City Chiefs LB Shares Thoughts on Zach Wilson, Jets
Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was recently asked to share his thoughts on New York and their quarterback Zach Wilson. After putting an effort to phrase his response in the most respectful manner possible, the 25-year-old still ended up throwing a bit of shade on their upcoming opponents:
“Damn, that was a hard question, I can’t lie,” Gay said (h/t Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report). “A team that wants to run the ball. … That wasn’t meant to be funny or anything, but [Aaron Rodgers] got hurt and it turned into a team where, like, panic mode almost. That’s what I see at least. They’ve got great running backs, so know they’re just tying to pound it, pound and ground. … I feel like that’s their game plan.”
I see no lies here. Wilson has played poorly since taking over the reins in New York, and the fact that he’s completed just 44-of-84 passes for 467 yards to start the season is a clear testament to this notion. The young quarterback has scored two touchdowns, but he’s also had no less than four interceptions in three games.
Things only get harder for Wilson and Co. on Sunday when they face their toughest test of the season yet. The Chiefs are rolling right now, and they are coming off a massive 41-10 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 3.
After their unexpected Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, Kansas City has now mustered up back-to-back wins in their title defense. They will obviously be looking to make it three straight on Sunday at the expense of a struggling Jets side.
