Kirk Herbstreet has covered multiple Kansas City Chiefs games over the years, but he’ll be the first to tell you that Taylor Swift brought in an unfamiliar element to the games he’s been calling.
The Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift love story has taken the world by storm, successfully linking two seemingly disconnected worlds in the process. You can count on the cameras to constantly pan her way whenever she makes an appearance at any Chiefs game.
They have been pretty public with their love story recently, so it wasn’t strange for the seasoned broadcaster to share his two cents about the entire shebang.
Kirk Herbstreet doesn’t think Taylor Swift’s attendance at Kansas City Chiefs games ruined football
Herbstreet heard the online and offline chatter from frustrated fans who claimed that Taylor Swift’s presence at Cheifs games ruined the experience of watching football.
However, as reported by The Spun’s Daniel Bates, he doesn’t understand where the hate is coming from:
I don’t get the ‘broken football’ part of it. I don’t know a whole lot about Taylor Swift, I know a lot about football. I called a game with Al Michaels this year with the Chiefs. She was there. We talked about it in our production meeting. ‘Ok, how many times are we gonna show Taylor Swift?’ And I think Al Michaels, who is the best to have ever done it, was in total control of ‘hey, when it’s warranted, we’ll cut to her.’ I think we cut to her one or two times throughout the broadcast.
If there’s one thing that Swift brought to the games, it’s the number of fans who are interested to learn more about the Blank Space singer’s boyfriend. Plenty of testimonials both online and offline attest to wives and girlfriends asking their partners about football simply because Taylor Swift is dating one of the best players in the NFL.
While she’s reportedly banned from appearing at the Super Bowl parade, her impact to the NFL has been undeniable. It may be time for the league’s vocal opposition to accept that this will be the new norm.
Unless they break up, of course.
