Kansas City Chiefs: Fans Blast Bengals DB After Claiming Rookie Xavier Worthy ‘Can’t Do Too Much’

With the 28th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected wide receiver Xavier Worthy, formerly of Texas football. After posting a 1,000-yard season in 2023, Worthy posted a ludicrous 4.21 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, the fastest in the event’s history. The Texas product made good on his first NFL regular season game, collecting 68 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns on just three touches.

Following their 27-20 win against the Baltimore Ravens to open the 2024 season, Kansas City will host the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday. However, one Bengals defensive back believes Worthy will have less impact, calling him a one-dimensional speed guy. Nevertheless, Chiefs fans took exception to the statement, especially with Cincinnati likely still licking their wounds following an upset home loss against the New England Patriots.

According to NFL insider Ari Meirov:

#Bengals CB Cam Taylor-Britt on what #Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy brings to their offense: “Speed. That’s about it. He can run straight. Run jet sweeps and just run straight. He can’t do too much else, so that’s about it.” (@CalebNoeTV)

Cam Taylor-Britt, a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, recognized Kansas City Chiefs rookie wideout Xavier Worthy’s speed, but that’s about it. Although Worthy owns elite speed, he also caught 72 passes for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns in 2023 with a Texas offense loaded with premium talent. Worthy also snagged 12 touchdowns in 2021, his first with the Texas Longhorns.

Taylor-Britt collected seven tackles in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. A cornerback, Taylor-Britt could find himself lined up against the speedy Worthy multiple times on Sunday. Although the 24-year-old could see a heavy dose of Worthy, his comments on Thursday suggest he has little worry about getting exposed on anything that isn’t predicated on straight-line speed. Kansas City Chiefs fans took exception to Taylor-Britt’s lackluster comments, expressing their frustration via social media:

Trent McDuffie and Xavier Worthy gave props and praise to Chase today. Taylor-Britt then proceeds to say this.

Is being a douche bag an actual requirement of being a part of this team? https://t.co/oVAZc27Oj3
