The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 on Thursday night in the NFL’s season opener literally by a toe. Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely caught what appeared to be the game-tying touchdown (and perhaps the game-winner as Baltimore was about to go for two), but review of the play showed his toe came down on the line in the back of the end zone.

While Kansas City had several important contributors to their victory, none was more electric than that of rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy. The speedy Worthy caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown while adding one rush for 21 yards and another touchdown.

Worthy’s performance was clearly one of the main differences in the game, prompting NFL fans on social media to ask the same question.

Worthy, as fans may recall, shocked NFL teams and fans at the NFL Draft Combine when he broke the 40-yard dash record with a time of 4.21 seconds. His speed, along with his productive 2023 season at Texas, made him one of the most intriguing names at his position entering the draft.

Kansas City, as the Super Bowl Champions, did not pick in the first round until the final pick. However, they worked out a trade with the Buffalo Bill to move up and take Worthy with the 28th overall pick.

After his two-touchdown debut in Week One, NFL fans were all asking the same question regarding Worthy and the Chiefs (and the Bills):

    The Buffalo Bills:

    – Traded the 10th pick in 2017 to Kansas City (used to draft Patrick Mahomes)

    – Traded the 28th pick in 2024 to Kansas City (used to take Xavier Worthy) pic.twitter.com/NQCjRU7Y6W

I still can’t believe the rest of the NFL let Kansas City draft Xavier Worthy.

The Bills traded draft picks that gave the Chiefs:

    Patrick Mahomes
    Xavier Worthy

    That’ll hurt.

The Bills, of course, drafted wide receiver Keon Coleman with the first pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. While this is just one game for Worthy, he will be compared to Coleman for years to come due to the circumstances surrounding how and where they were both drafted.

Last year, Tom Grossi, a viral comedian who hosts a Green Bay Packers podcast, won the NFL’s Fan of the Year Award. After the game, he posted a video that perfectly captured the reactions of fans throughout the game.

As one can see in the video, Grossi pokes fun at the referees and all the illegal formation calls, as well as fans for their reactions to the Worthy touchdowns, Justin Tucker missed field goal, Isaiah Likely, and the exciting play at the end of the game.
