Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s popularity is at an all-time high after the QB-TE duo led the Kansas City Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl title. With that being said, it shouldn’t be a surprise that a pair of their game-used memorabilia have been auctioned off for crazy prices.
According to the latest sales data, a pair of Mahomes cleats and a Kelce helmet sold for almost $100,000 combined.
Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs Cleats Make History
Before the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, the cleats that Mahomes wore during the final game of the regular season against the then Oakland Raiders in 2018 was auctioned off at Goldin.
“Now, the significance of these cleats is manifold. They originate from Mahomes first full season as the Chiefs starting quarterback, making these exceptional early-career gamers from a player who would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame if he retired today,” Goldin wrote on the item description.
“Not only were they worn in the final game of the 2018 NFL regular season, but they were worn in warm-ups for the AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Colts before Mahomes exchanged them for another pair due to the poor conditions from heavy rain. But, most significantly, these cleats mark the first pair of Mahomes gamers to be photo-matched by a reputable third-party authenticator and sold publicly.
The cleats, which feature Chiefs colorways, was in auction for about a month starting February 9. It only ended on Sunday, with the final price being $71,980. According to Goldin, it’s the highest price ever paid for a pair of Mahomes cleats.
Considering the impact of Mahomes in the game and the fact that he’s on his way to contending as the sport’s GOAT, it’s definitely a great price for an item that should only increase in value over time.
Should Mahomes and the Chiefs successfully secure the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat, the demand for Mahomes memorabilia should only increase.
Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs Helmet Also Sold for Record Price
It’s not only a Patrick Mahomes item that set a record, though. A Travis Kelce helmet that he wore in the 2015 playoffs and Pro Bowl also fetched $26,840 in the same auction.
According to Goldin, it sets the record for a Kelce game-worn helmet.
Here’s how the item was described in the auction:
“Presented is a Kansas City Chiefs football helmet used by their star tight end Travis Kelce during the 2015 NFL playoffs and Pro Bowl. The 2015 NFL season marked the first time in Kelce’s early career where he started every regular season game …
“The offered helmet features the Chiefs’ Arrowhead logo on either side and a white facemask affixed to the helmet’s front. A US Air Force, US Army, and a gold NFL Shield logo trio of stickers are affixed to the back of the helmet. A pair of warning stickers, along with the number “87” and size “L” sticker are affixed to the inside of the helmet. The helmet comes with an LOA from Davious Sports Photomatching (MM2560), who have conclusively photo-matched the helmet to the 7 aforementioned regular season games, 2 postseason games, and the Pro Bowl game.”
With Kelce’s popularity surging to new heights amid his romance with pop star Taylor Swift, it’s definitely not surprising that his game-used items are also increasing in prices. Sure enough, the fact that he’s in contention as one of the best tight ends ever makes his memorabilia even more enticing to collect.
As the Kansas City Chiefs look to keep their dynasty alive, it might not be the last time we see Mahomes and Kelce’s items be sold for bonkers money.
