The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most popular teams in the NFL. As back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, this is not much of a surprise. When they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII last month, a record 210 million people tuned in to watch.
With two-time NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes under center, the promise is there for Kansas City to be relevant for a long time, especially if the Chiefs continue to add quality wide receivers around him. Currently, however, their surge in popularity is the result of something else entirely.
Travis Kelce Dating Taylor Swift Has Made the Kansas City Chiefs Even More Popular
While traditional NFL fans may not want to admit it, Travis Kelce’s relationship with 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift has been incredible in regards to growing the game. Even before the Super Bowl, 55 million people tuned in to watch the Chiefs play the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game, the highest viewer total for that event in NFL history.
In addition, Swift helped bring in $331 million to the NFL in terms of more tickets sold, merchandise bought, and ad spots paid for. Kelce, who is a nine-time Pro Bowl tight end and future Hall of Famer, saw his jersey sales spike as he entered the top-ten of players’ jerseys sold. Not only that, his newfound popularity has led to millions of dollars worth of new endorsement deals for him.
Kansas City Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Has Traveled to Support Taylor Swift on Eras Tour
Of course, much of the press that the couple has received throughout the NFL season came as a result of Swift’s attendance at Chiefs games. However, the four-time First-Team All-Pro tight end has also gone to great lengths to support her as well.
During the Chiefs’ bye week, Kelce traveled to Argentina where Swift was performing as part of her Eras Tour. After Super Bowl LVIII, he flew to Sydney, Australia to spend a few days with her. Swift was there for a couple of weeks as part of her world-wide tour.
Kelce only spent a few days in Australia before returning home for prior commitments he had with teammates and friends. As a result, he was not there when Swift’s father reportedly punched a member of the paparazzi who was trying to get through the popstar’s security personnel in order to get closer to her.

Being the most famous popstar in the world certainly has its drawbacks, and incidents like the one Swift’s father was involved in is among the chief of them. Indeed, security is a great concern for Swift’s family, who worry that she is too welcoming and kind to fans. After the news of what happened in Australia came out, sources close to the family told The Daily Mail that things like that are a big reason why they are so happy she is dating the six-foot-five, 250 pound football player:
“Taylor’s family and everyone who knows her is so relieved by her relationship with Travis—not only because she is madly in love but also because he makes her security personnel job much easier.
“Travis is a big dude and no one would mess with him because, when it comes to Taylor, he would not play if someone tried to come near her. She has a built-in bodyguard at all times. Travis has vowed to keep her safe and there is no doubt about this. No one will try to come close to her when she is holding hands with her powerhouse boyfriend.”
As mentioned, Kelce was not present at the time the paparazzi aggressively tried to get through Swift’s security personnel in Australia. One has to wonder if they would have been so bold had the three-time Super Bowl Champion been there.
They can add in the rest of the Chiefs roster to the list of football players that would be happy to protect the singer. Secondary coach Dave Merritt recently revealed that the players all view her as part of their family.
