The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the most talked about teams of the NFL offseason. While this should be because of the fact that they are back-to-back Super Bowl Champions, that fact has not been the focus of more recent headlines.
Wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing a levy of legal charges following his involvement in a high-speed car accident in which he was allegedly driving 119 miles per hour. He also was facing charges regarding an altercation with a photographer at a Dallas night club, but those have since been dropped. Additionally, a report of him shooting into another individual’s car while he was a student at SMU recently surfaced.
But while the entire NFL world could agree that Rice’s actions were wrong, the recent speech and subsequent comments by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker have sparked debate among people, whether they are football fans or not.
Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker’s Commencement Speech Drew Immense Criticism
During a commencement speech to the graduating class at Benedictine College, a private Catholic school, Butker discussed his faith and expressed views that many deemed insulting to women, the LGBTQ+ community, and Jews.
Concerning women, Butker said:
“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
“…it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
In the weeks that have followed his speech, Butker has been criticized by a number of media outlets and celebrities. Meanwhile, his Chiefs teammates, such as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, have stood by his side (though expressing their disagreement with his views).
Harrison Butker Doubling Down on His Comments Drew the Approval of Randi Mahomes, the Mother of Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
At a recent gala to support Regina Caeli Academy, a private Catholic homeschool hybrid (Butker is on the board of directors), the Chiefs kicker doubled down on the comments he made at Benedictine College:
“Our love for Jesus, and thus, our desire to speak out, should never be outweighed by the longing of our fallen nature to be loved by the world. Glorifying God and not ourselves should always remain our motivation despite any pushback, or even support. I lean on those closest to me for guidance, but I can never forget that it is not people, but Jesus Christ who I’m trying to please.”
This particular part of his speech to the attendees of the gala drew the approval of Randi Mahomes, the mother of the Chiefs’ quarterback:
Amen…🙏 https://t.co/QLNwMe3vE6

It is unclear what Mahomes’ mother may think of Butker’s views on women and their role in society. However, here she seems to be showing approval of his statement that one should also stand up for their beliefs.
In any case, many fans in the replies voiced their support for both her and Butker.
