It’s no secret Patrick Mahomes Sr. has been struggling against his vices for the longest time. Turns out, the father of the Kansas City Chiefs’ franchise player has taken a major step towards the right direction in an update he recently shared.
A couple of months ago, Mahomes Sr. was formally indicted on a felony drunk-driving charge. He was arrested on February 3, just one week before his son led the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl win.
This marks the third time he has faced a DWI charge. He was previously charged with public intoxication in 2016 and a DWI offense in 2018, for which he pled guilty and served 40 days in jail.
The latest incident occurred in Smith County, Texas, where the former pitcher was booked into the county jail on suspicion of DWI. On March 28, he was indicted on the felony charge of Driving While Intoxicated for a third or more time.
During press conferences leading up to the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs star addressed his father’s arrest, stating that he was doing good and that it was a family matter he would keep private. The elder Mahomes played in the MLB from 1992 to 2003, and is currently the host of a sports podcast called The Big Mahomes Show. The latest legal issue is another setback in the family’s public life.

Mahomes Sr., a former MLB pitcher, was arrested for his sixth DWI just days before the Kansas City Chiefs competed in the Super Bowl this year. Despite this legal trouble, he has been a vocal supporter of his son’s NFL success, frequently going viral for smoking celebratory cigars dedicated to opposing quarterbacks on the field.
It remains to be seen whether the former pitcher can keep this up or another relapse will happen down the road. In any case, Kansas City Chiefs fans hope it’s the former to help Mahomes focus on leading his team to a potential three-peat this season.
