The Kansas City Chiefs are arguably the best franchise in the NFL right now. They are getting ready to make their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five seasons. Plus, the Chiefs are attempting to win their third Super Bowl during this stretch. This run over the past five years practically mimics another powerful dynasty.
New England Patriots 2014-18
Before the Chiefs took over the NFL, the New England Patriots were the team that dominated the NFL. While they were dominant for more than five seasons, 2014-18 are the peak years that mimic this current Chiefs run. Why is this?
For one thing, the Patriots also won three Super Bowls during this stretch. Plus, they appeared in four Super Bowls during those five seasons. On top of this, they won their division all five of those seasons.
Kansas City Chiefs’ Similarities
So, how are the Chiefs similar to the past dynasty? As mentioned above, they have matched the Super Bowl appearances of the Patriots and hope to match the titles in the same stretch. Plus, they have also won their division in each of the last five seasons.
Another thing to note about this team is how many wins they have had over the last five seasons. An important thing to mention here is that the Chiefs have had to play three more regular season games. So, what is their regular season record in the last five years?
The Chiefs are 63-20 over the last five seasons. Let’s take a look at the Patriots’ record from 2014-18. New England went 62-18 in that period. While the Patriots do technically have a better record, the Chiefs are not far behind.
Kansas City Chiefs Moving Forward
Right now, the Patriots have unofficially passed the torch to the Chiefs to dominate the NFL. Kansas City has a chance to cement this dominance with a third Super Bowl title in five seasons. To do this, they will have to win a rematch against the San Francisco 49ers.
You can bet that the 49ers will want redemption in this game. That is because they held a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIV. Yet, they lost the game. Now, if the Chiefs can come up with a second win over the 49ers, QB Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid will likely be mentioned in the same breath as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick more so than they are already.
