Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive linesman Jerrell Powe may have just received the biggest decision of his life. This is after a Mississippi grand jury reportedly decided against indicting the 36-year-old.
Powe was arrested and charged with kidnapping in 2023 and it now appears that he will avoid jail time for the same.
Grand Jury Will NOT Indict Former Kansas City Chiefs DL Jerrell Powe
According to an ESPN report by the Associated Press, it was Powe’s own attorney, Tom Fortner, who revealed the court’s decision on his client’s case:
“Tom Fortner told The Associated Press on Monday that he received notification from the Madison County district attorney’s office in December that a grand jury had declined to issue an indictment to send Powe to trial. Grand juries meet in private.”
According to reports, Powe and his supposed accomplice were accused of kidnapping a man in Laurel, Mississippi last year:
“Police said Powe and another person were arrested at a bank in the Jackson suburb of Ridgeland after a man alleged he had been taken against his will in Laurel, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of Jackson.”
Powe first joined the NFL in 2011 when he was selected in the sixth round by the Chiefs. He spent three years in Kansas City before signing with the Houston Texans in 2014. In three years, the former Mississippi standout played 12 games for the Chiefs, including one start in 2013.
