The Chicago Bears have officially locked in the first-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, but have a quarterback in Justin Fields. With USC quarterback Caleb Williams essentially a lock to be the first selection, that leaves the team in an interesting dilemma. They could trade the pick and build around this roster or trade away quarterback Justin Fields and reset the rookie quarterback clock.
Going under the assumption that the ladder happens, where would be the best fits for Fields going forward?
Justin Fields Team #1: Atlanta Falcons
The most obvious landing spot would be the Atlanta Falcons for a few reasons. One is that this would be a homecoming as he played high school football in Kennesaw, Georgia, which is 30 miles away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The other reason is that this team is a quarterback away from being a serious threat.
With coach Arthur Smith on the hot seat and could be fired on Black Monday, this could be a fresh start in Atlanta. With incredible players such as wide receiver Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts and running back Bijan Robinson on the offensive side of things, this could be a match made in heaven.
This is also thinking that the NFC South has proven to be a lot easier to win. If the Falcons get a quarterback like Justin Fields, they should be the favorites to win the division and make a playoff run with this roster.
Justin Fields Team #2: Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers find ways to win games despite having one of the worst quarterback rooms in the entire league. Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph are not going to be guys who can win you football games. Instead, they need top players to perform to keep things going. Tomlin with Justin Fields would be interesting as he is a dynamic playmaker and would really open up the offense.
With offensive coordinator Matt Canada gone, Fields has playmakers that can make this Steelers offense look like a top team in the entire sport. With this defense as well, the Steelers could be in contention for a Super Bowl if they make this move.
Justin Fields Team #3: New York Jets
The New York Jets have to be prepared in case the disaster scenario of this year happens again as they are relying on Aaron Rodgers after a torn Achilles to play a full season in 2024. With reports circulating that they will trade Zach Wilson in the offseason, why not trade for Fields and get him to be the backup quarterback?
Fields may not like it as he has proven to be a starting quarterback in the NFL but this also gives the Jets a plan for the future once Rodgers decides to retire. With the weapons on offense like wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall, this is not a bad landing spot for the former first-round pick.
