Las Vegas Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs has emerged as a key player who could sign with a new team in free agency this offseason. Jacobs is not under a multi-year contract and is playing under a franchise tag for the 2023 season. With the team set to hire a new general manager next season, it is unclear how much they value the star running back, which could lead him to sign with another team, like the New England Patriots according to Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay.
Josh Jacobs Rumors
According to Kay, it is difficult to know whether Jacobs will still be in Las Vegas next season. The team will possibly go into rebuild mode next season, which could lead them to cut expensive players to keep around like the star running back.
“While Jacobs is still finding the end zone somewhat regularly and is flirting with a career-best showing as a pass-catcher- he has 35 receptions for 280 yards over the first 12 games- his market won’t be too hot due to his meager 3.5 yards per carry. Jacobs looks primed to land with a non-contender for 2024, likely one flush with cap space that needs a ball carrier to shoulder a heavy load due to a lack of talent under center.”
Team Rebuilds
New England is notorious for not paying their running backs under Bill Belichick, however, several rumors have the head coach moving on to another team this season, which could change the organization’s priorities depending on who they have him replaced with. It will also depend on whether or not the Raiders continue to roll with Antonio Pierce as their head coach. If Pierce stays with the team, Jacobs will most likely remain in Las Vegas.
While this prediction has a lot of “ifs,” it seems like it could be reality with the way things are going for both teams this season. With both franchises potentially going through massive changes during the upcoming offseason, moving on from key players and starting fresh seems like the best fit as of right now.
