The Pittsburgh Steelers were named as a logical trade partner for an elite running back before Week 4. The Steelers’ offense has improved in their previous two games after putting up just seven points against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1.
Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett is doing okay in the passing scheme, given the Steelers are missing wide receiver Diontae Johnson. Pickett’s also being asked to carry the offense without a good rushing balance.
The Steelers have just 201 yards rushing through their first three games. Najee Harris is the Steelers leading rusher with 139 yards on the ground. The Steelers have no rushing touchdowns this season. The Steelers 2021 first-round pick isn’t getting the job done in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Steelers named in trade for Jonathan Taylor
One NFL writer thinks the Steelers could be in a position to land a disgruntled All-Pro running back to replace Harris. Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor still wants to be traded. Kristopher Knox with Bleacher Report wrote that Taylor would be a great fit for the Steelers:
“There’s still no guarantee Taylor will recover the Pro Bowl form he last showed in 2021. However, that year—which included a league-high 1,811 rushing yards—should be enough to entice other teams.
The Steelers might want to consider the Wisconsin product, as 2021 first-round pick Najee Harris continues to underperform on the ground. He’s averaging just 4.0 yards per carry this season and 3.9 yards per carry for his career.
Taylor could add a new dynamic to what has become a very one-dimensional Steelers offense. “
Najee Harris could do better with the Indianapolis Colts
The Steelers could trade a day-two pick and Harris to the Colts for Taylor. Harris needs a new change of scenery, and the Colts could be a better place for him to play with their offense featuring a dual-threat quarterback in rookie Anthony Richardson.
Taylor would immediately benefit Pickett and the Steelers offense. The Steelers wouldn’t be one-dimensional with Taylor in the backfield. That could open up space for George Pickens and Allen Robinson in the passing game.
