John Elway Claims Sean Payton Is A “Perfect Fit” For The Denver Broncos

Add John Elway to the list of people who are excited about Sean Payton. The Denver Broncos needed to do something big after Nathanial Hackett didn’t even last one season. They gave up premium draft capital but they get one of the best coaches in the last 20 years. Elway recently said that Payton is a “perfect fit” for the Broncos and more importantly, Russell Wilson.

Speaking to Lionel Bienvenu of ABC 7 Denver Elway had nothing but great things to say about the Super Bowl-winning coach.

“I am excited. He’s a perfect fit for where we are right now, where the Broncos are right now. Obviously, he has a lot of skins on the wall. He won a Super Bowl before and won a ton of football games. I don’t think there could have been a better fit. I think he will be great.”

He went on to talk about the fit for Russell Wilson specifically.

“(Wilson) is such a positive guy. I think he’s excited about it. With what was going on last year, a lot of different things, Sean brings in so much experience. I think Russell is looking forward to that coach to put him in the best position to be successful. … It was a tough year for him last year. But he’s positive and tough. He will bounce back, and I think he’s going to have a much better year this year.”

    What Makes 2023 A Success?

I have a simple answer to this question. Wilson has to show that he can stay on the roster. If things are as bad as last year, the Broncos may have no choice but to move on. This will create a massive dead cap hit in the future years, one that will take a long time to recover from. The better alternative is for Wilson to show that he can still play quarterback at a high level. Even though the cap hit is still big, at least the team would be getting something out of the transaction.

John Elway isn’t the only person excited about Sean Payton. Broncos fans are ready for competence on the headset after the Hackett experience. The Broncos are one of the most interesting teams in 2023 as it is a complete wild card of what they will be.
