On Wednesday afternoon, former Denver Broncos quarterback, general manager, and president of football operations John Elway released a statement on the death of his business partner Jeff Sperbeck.
Per multiple reports, Sperbeck, 62, died on Wednesday from injuries he sustained when he fell off a golf cart that was being driven by Elway. The incident occurred on Saturday night in La Quinta, California. Sperbeck died on Wednesday at a hospital in Palm Springs, California.

Per a post on X by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Elway released a statement about the death of Sperbeck. He called his Sperbeck a “close friend.”
“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway wrote. “There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.
“My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.”

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident. Per TMZ, officials do not believe Elway was driving negligently at the time of the incident.
Elway was the Broncos’ No. 1 pick in the 1983 NFL Draft. He won Super Bowls XXXII, XXXIII as a player and Super Bowl XXXIII as an executive.
