New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen has done a lot of work scouting quarterbacks. With the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they will have the option to take one of those quarterbacks or they will have the option to trade up for one. It is going to depend on what happens during the 2024 NFL Draft.
General manager Joe Schoen told the media about what goes into scouting these quarterbacks by saying:
“It’s not, ‘OK, if this guy fails at corner, we can move him to nickel or he’s at least our third tackle or our third nickel rusher. The margin for error is – the fail factor is, you are either a backup that bounces around or you’re out of the league.”
It will be interesting to see which quarterback Schoen likes in this class. Caleb Williams from USC for sure won’t be available by the time the Giants pick. The multi-million dollar question will be who of J.J. McCarthy, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels will be available to them at number six either with a trade-up or with the sixth selection.
New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen Needs To Get This Pick Right
There is no doubt that Schoen needs to get this selection right in the NFL Draft. A lot of fans are going to be happy when the Giants draft a quarterback to replace Daniel Jones because it needs to be done. The fanbase likes Drake Maye from North Carolina a lot and will see if that will be the selection for them.
The New York Giants signed some offensive line help in free agency. They also traded for Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers to help improve the defensive side of the ball. If the Giants don’t trade up for a quarterback and if all of them are off the board by number six, they can very well draft a wide receiver in round one and maybe draft someone else in round two.
Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito are the current quarterbacks on the roster for now for the Giants. Will see if they add someone else to that room in the 2024 NFL Draft.
