Joe Burrow is on the way to getting back to the field for the 2024 season after suffering a season ending wrist injury last year. Burrow was seen in his first on field workout since the injury in which he looks like he is getting back to form ahead of training camp.
Joe Burrow Responds To stars Requesting Trades
The superstar quarterback returns to the Cincinnati Bengals during a bit of a tumultuous period for the team. Two of the Bengals star players and key contributors, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson, both requested a trade out from the team.
Burrow stood by his teammates and had a classy reaction to them requesting a trade when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday:
“Those guys have their business they need to take care of. I support them in every way,” Burrow said, per team reporter Geoff Hobson. “Both those guys have earned everything that has come to them and more. I’ll support them all the way through it. Whatever they feel like is best for their career. That’s for them and their agents and their families to decide.”
With all of that said though, Burrow was clear about his desire for both of these star players to stay with the team.
Can The Cincinnati Bengals Keep All Of Their Stars
Burrow thinks that is possible that the team can still keep both of their stars that requested a trade out for the team, as he was quoted saying:
“I really hope both those guys are here next year because we are a better football team with both of them,” he added. “They are both great locker room guys, too. They are going to do what they’ve got to do, but when the time comes for them to come back, if that time comes, we are going to welcome them back and hit our stride.”
Higgins requested a trade right after the team franchised tagged the star receiver. Later on he did say that he expects to play for Cincinnati this season, but it does not seem like he will after that. Higgins would get many calls for trades as there are numerous teams that are in dire need of star receiver.
Hendrickson on the other hand, still has two more years on his extension with the team that he signed last summer. He is by far their most important piece on the defensive side of the ball and that would be a huge loss for a team that does not have many elite defenders.
At the moment, it does seem that both players will suit up for the Bengals in this upcoming season, but the team is still fielding calls for trades ahead of training camp.
