Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines have had a roller coaster of a season. The highs have been going undefeated and being the number one seed in the College Football Playoff. The lows have been the sign-stealing scandal that has rocked the university. Before the scandal, it was reported that Harbaugh was looking to sign an extension. Those talks got tabled but now it looks like an announcement may be coming soon.

Jim Harbaugh, Michigan Wolverines Close On Extension
Reportedly, the contract is for five years at $11 million per year. Michigan insider John U. Bacon reported that “things are trending positively” after a “breakthrough” this week. Rumors have been flying since the scandal broke that this would be Harbaugh’s last season at Michigan. This was the perfect excuse to jump back into the NFL with many attractive jobs available. It has even been rumored that teams are extremely interested in Harbaugh. However, it seems he may not be available. The university is actively trying to keep him in-house.
What’s The Hold Up?
The report indicates that there is only one thing holding this up. Michigan is looking for a written commitment from Harbaugh that states he will not pursue the NFL after this season. It has been a couple of offseasons where the Wolverines have to wonder whether their coach will come back. They clearly want a little more stability in the program. Michigan went a long time muddling through coaches and mediocrity. Now that they have their guy, they want him to stay.
If he stays, this would be massive for the Michigan Wolverines. Jim Harbaugh has brought the program back to relevance and the university wants that to continue.
